Every weekday morning, we'll round up local and national Seattle Seahawks-related links.
Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times ranks running back an eight on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of Seahawks' draft needs:
Much was understandably made of the news that Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry had a pre-draft visit with the Seahawks. Henry obviously showed he could produce in college at a high level and at 6-3, 247 pounds offers a unique blend of size and athleticism for a tailback. Seattle also pulled a surprise when it went for Michael in the second round in 2013, so the Seahawks don’t appear averse to spending resources on the position.
Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune looks at what matters to the Seahawks when evaluating draft prospects:
“It starts with the measurables, and the attitude of the person, and the grit, the makeup. His background. His character. What he’s all about,” [John] Schneider said last year.
That was on the day much of the league was also wondering what the Seahawks were doing drafting Kristjan Sokoli for their offense. He was a defensive tackle born in Albania and out of the University of Buffalo.
Another guy perhaps only Seattle would have drafted.
Brandon Browner talked about his potential role during an interview on 710 ESPN Seattle, via Brady Henderson:
He was asked about the belief that he’s better suited to play in Seattle’s defense than he was or would be in other places.
“I’m not one for making any predictions or anything like that,” Browner said. “I just want to come and play ball. I think I’ll be a lot more comfortable here because I’ve been here before. I got guys around me I’ve played with, been on the field with, and the environment here in Seattle is like no other.”
