So far in free agency, the Titans have added or re-signed nine players. All but one primarily play defense or special teams.
The additions:
CB Logan Ryan
ST/S Brynden Trawick
ST/LB Daren Bates
KR/PR Eric Weems
DL Karl Klug
LB/ST Nate Palmer
TE/ST Phillip Supernaw
Ideally, that amounts to three new defensive starters and five core special-teamers.
The offensive impact? A No. 3 tight end and a return man (with experience with offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie) who could, conceivably, play receiver in a pinch. Weems has caught just one pass in the past two seasons.
What comes first doesn’t necessarily correlate to a team’s priorities. And we don’t know who the Titans talked to and missed out on.
We do know they were involved in trade talks for receiver Brandin Cooks before he landed in New England via a trade. I know, too, the Titans did not have a strong feeling for receiver Terrelle Pryor, who signed for a year in Washington.
We know the Titans lost a key offensive player when blocking tight end Anthony Fasano circled back to Miami.
Perhaps we’ll see a veteran receiver, a tight end or an offensive lineman added soon.
Perhaps a Titans team that is sure to draft at least one cornerback will do more to address Marcus Mariota’s side of the ball at the end of April.
One thing is certain: We’re going to see a lot of mock drafts giving the Titans Clemson receiver Mike Williams, Western Michigan receiver Corey Davis and/or Alabama tight end O.J. Howard.
