ASHBURN, Va. -- The Redskins have a walk-through Friday afternoon, then head to Baltimore for Saturday’s game vs. the Ravens. Here are three areas of interest for your wake-up call:
Quarterback Robert Griffin III. He was cleared to play vs. Baltimore on Saturday, but the focus now turns to his performance -- with his health as always a topic, coming off an apparent concussion and facing a team with two good pass-rushers in Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil. But now it's on Griffin to play well in order to calm fears -- and those fears aren't just outside Redskins Park. Griffin will get a chance to show that he still belongs as the starter entering the season. It'll help him having left tackle Trent Williams and tight end Jordan Reed back among the starters.
Injuries. Coach Jay Gruden will be able to provide an update on who will miss Saturday’s game after the walk-through. Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan’s status remains uncertain; the only ones out for sure are safety Akeem Davis (hamstring) and defensive end Frank Kearse (knee). Also, receiver DeSean Jackson (shoulder) was unable to participate in practice Thursday, so he’s eyeing the season opener vs. Miami for his return.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins. Early in camp, some in the organization viewed him as inconsistent, just like the other quarterbacks. But the coaches have been pleased with his performance in the first two preseason games, facing backups (but also playing with them). Has he developed or is he just a fourth-year player comfortable in the offense who should play well vs. backups? Cousins says he’s developing and I’ll have a post later today explaining in what ways he feels better -- and what he says about responding to negative plays.
