Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller has been placed on injured reserve, and forward Brian Ferlin has been recalled from Providence of the AHL, the team announced Thursday.
Miller has been dealing with a right shoulder injury for most of the season and reinjured it during Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames. He missed Wednesday's game against the Edmonton Oilers and returned to Boston to be examined by team doctors.
Miller missed 12 games earlier this season with a dislocated right shoulder but had played every game since returning to the lineup on Nov. 21. He has been wearing a brace during games and practices and recently admitted he would likely need offseason surgery.
Ferlin, 22, will join the Bruins in St. Louis and will be eligible to play Friday against the Blues. This is the first NHL call-up of his career. In his first full season in the AHL, Ferlin has nine goals and seven assists for 16 points and 36 penalty minutes for the P-Bruins.
