TEMPE, Ariz. -- Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Monday he is optimistic that first-round pick Jeremiyah Love will be able to play Sunday against the Chargers in Los Angeles, about four weeks after the running back suffered a high ankle sprain in a preseason game.
"I feel good (about his chances)," LaFleur said.
LaFleur noted that Love was "moving around" during the team's walk-through Monday and overall is "progressing." The Cardinals will issue their first injury report Wednesday.
Love went down during a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 13 with a high ankle sprain and didn't play or practice again the rest of the preseason. Love was at the Cardinals' last open practice last week in street clothes.
Arizona kept three running backs on its initial 53-man roster: Tyler Allgeier, Bam Knight and Love. It also signed running back Evan Hull to its practice squad.
Love was the third pick in April's draft out of Notre Dame.
