A look at what the Jaguars have done in the penalty department through eight games:
Totals:
41 penalties, 1 declined, 418 yards, 45 nullified yards, 15 first downs, 9 stalled drives
Primary offenders:
CB William Middleton: 3 penalties for 57 yards, 3 first downs
OT Guy Whimper: 3 penalties for 30 yards, 2 nullified yards
OT Eugene Monroe: 3 penalties for 25 yards, 2 stalled drives
Seven different players have 2 penalties each
Primary offenses:
Offensive holding: 9 penalties for 86 yards, 21 nullified yards and 3 stalled drives
Defensive pass interference: 7 penalties (and 1 declined) for 140 yards and 6 first downs
False starts: 7 penalties for 33 yards and 3 stalled drives
Thoughts:
Overall, it's not a bad report. Two of the three worst offenders are backups who have been thrust into duty. That's says good things about the discipline of the starters.
