Stat to know: As a four-year starter, Kirk never missed a game at Florida Atlantic. He was a two-time captain, and had 344 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and three interceptions for the Owls.
Road to the roster: Probably one of the more intelligent players in this year’s free-agent class, Kirk can use his smarts to separate himself and make the roster. He was known at FAU for his ability to diagnose plays before they happened -- similar to how Larry Foote operated last season. Kirk was borderline obsessive about watching tape in college, a trait coaches will like in the NFL. He’s coming into a situation in which Kirk has a shot to win a job, either as a starter or a reserve because of the instability at inside linebacker.
