Welcome to #CardsMailbag, a weekly installment that allows you to ask me questions about the Arizona Cardinals throughout the week via Twitter @joshweinfuss. I'll answer them every week during training camp and the preseason. Make sure to use the hashtag #CardsMailbag.
@joshweinfuss any chance s.weatherspoon cut due to unavailability? Which d lineman may b cut or traded?
— anthony (@anthonyacabrera) August 27, 2015 @joshweinfuss: No, I don't think the Cardinals cut ILB Sean Weatherspoon due to "unavailability" for a few reasons. When he's healthy, he's quite good. As in one-of-the-best-linebackers-in-the-league good, so that potential alone is worth keeping him around until he gets healthy. And Arizona gave him a $1.25 million signing bonus so that'd be wasted if they cut him. The only defensive lineman I can see being traded at the moment is Matt Shaughnessy because he's not high on the depth chart and Arizona knows it can get something for him based on his value in free agency this past offseason.
@joshweinfuss when will we ever get news on Washington?#CardsMailbag and why isn't it a big deal to anyone that he hasn't got any news?
— Nate kropp (@Nkrop) August 28, 2015 @joshweinfuss: Here's is why the NFL hasn't announced anything: Because it doesn't have to. Daryl Washington's suspension was left ope- ended, which means that the NFL doesn't have a deadline by which to reinstate him. And I'm sure it's a big deal to people that he hasn't gotten any news.
@joshweinfuss is DJ worth a spot on the 53? He seems to be a major disappointment 😡
— Mamdouh Tantawi (@azmofasa) August 28, 2015 @joshweinfuss: If you're talking about D.J. Humphries, then yes, he certainly is worthy of a spot on the 53-man roster. Why wouldn't he be on there? He's the team's first-round pick. He's the second-team tackle (swing tackle, at that). He may be young and immature but that's not a valid reason to cut a first-round pick after his first training camp.
@joshweinfuss which tight ends will make team? Gresham?
— anthony (@anthonyacabrera) August 28, 2015 @joshweinfuss: Most of them. I think we'll see either four or five depending on what happens with Troy Niklas' hamstring. If the long-term prognosis is good, then I can see Niklas, Jermaine Gresham, Darren Fells and Ifeanyi Momah making the roster. But, and this is just me thinking aloud, if Niklas is put on IR/designated to return, then Gerald Christian would make the roster and rookie undrafted free agent Gannon Sinclair would be the odd-man out.
