After leaving Saturday's preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with a possible concussion, Buffalo Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore did not return because of a shoulder injury.
Asked about Gilmore's injury after the game, coach Rex Ryan responded, "[He's] gonna be fine, I hope. We need him, he’s gonna be fine."
It wasn't exactly a reassuring answer from Ryan, who needs his top cornerback to be healthy when the Bills host Andrew Luck and Tom Brady in their first two regular-season games. With cornerback Leodis McKelvin (ankle) still in a walking cast and rookie cornerback Ronald Darby struggling in two of three preseason games, the Bills can't afford a long-term injury to Gilmore.
Here is the Bills' depth chart at cornerback:
Stephon Gilmore (injured Saturday/shoulder)
Leodis McKelvin (did not play Saturday/ankle)
Ronald Darby
Ross Cockrell (did not play Saturday/knee)
Cam Thomas (did not play Saturday/injury)
The Bills could also move safety Corey Graham back to cornerback, although defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman said earlier this month that they wouldn't do that unless it was necessary.
