ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills running back Karlos Williams took a step forward in his recovery from an undisclosed medical procedure, rehabbing his injury with the strength and conditioning staff during Tuesday's practice.
It's the first time that Williams has been spotted on the practice field since being hospitalized Aug. 17.
Williams is the favorite to take over the No. 2 running back job from Fred Jackson, who was released Monday. The fifth-round rookie leapfrogged Bryce Brown on the depth chart with a strong start to training camp.
Williams was among several players rehabbing injuries during Tuesday's practice, joining running back LeSean McCoy (hamstring), wide receiver Chris Hogan (ankle/knee), safety Aaron Williams (leg), cornerback Stephon Gilmore (shoulder) and wide receiver Deonte Thompson (foot).
Tight end Charles Clay (knee), defensive end Mario Williams (calf) and defensive tackle Marcell Dareus (leg) all had Tuesday's practice off.
Offensive tackle Tyson Chandler, linebacker Tony Steward (knee) and receiver Marquise Goodwin (ribs) were not spotted Tuesday.
Cornerback Leodis McKelvin, who was wearing a walking boot on his right foot Monday, was no longer in the walking boot Tuesday.
