The Buffalo Bills signed Tyrod Taylor to an extension last week that adds five years to his contract, but is he the right choice for you fantasy team? Here are some thoughts based on ESPN's fantasy projections for the 2016 season.
Tyrod Taylor
ESPN Fantasy Projection: 3,232 passing yards, 21.3 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 112 rushes, 577 rushing yards, 4.4 rushing touchdowns
Over or under: I'll take the over, although I feel that these projections are close to where Taylor will end the season statistically. The number that stands out the most to me is the 12 interceptions, which would double his total from last season (six, in 14 games). It's true that Taylor typically was conservative with the football last season and that he will probably take more chances as a second-year starter. However, I don't see him throwing that many interceptions; his decision-making and accuracy are some of his best traits as a quarterback.
Otherwise, these projections represent a slight increase from his statistics last season and should be highly attainable if he stays healthy for 16 games. The problem for Taylor is that his production could be linked to the health of wide receiver Sammy Watkins and tight end Charles Clay, who both missed time last season for injuries and have been on and off the field so far this training camp. Taylor with Watkins as his top receiver and Clay as a potential red-zone target is an easy fantasy pick, but Taylor with Robert Woods as his top receiver and Chris Gragg as his top red-zone target doesn't have nearly the same appeal. The Bills would also lean more heavily on their running game if Watkins is injured again.
