With 20 players set to be restricted or unrestricted free agents, the Dallas Cowboys will have plenty of decisions to make on who to keep and who to let go.
Let’s take a look at the free agents to be and how they could fit into the Cowboys’ future:
Linebacker James Anderson
Type: Unrestricted
What he did: He signed with the Cowboys Dec. 30 because of an injury to Anthony Hitchens and was inactive for the Cowboys' two playoff games. The Cowboys were his fourth team in 2014. He went to training camp with the New England Patriots. He played in seven games for the Tennessee Titans before he was released. He was on the Atlanta Falcons' roster for a month but was inactive for four games.
What he could do: The Cowboys signed him for his experience. If they are unable to keep Bruce Carter or Justin Durant, then perhaps Anderson could be a fallback option as an outside linebacker. He can also be a help on special teams. And he has been an every-down performer recently. In 2013 he started every game for the Chicago Bears and led the team with 129 tackles to go with a career-high four sacks.
What it should cost: It can’t be anything more than a one-year deal at the veteran minimum salary benefit.
