IRVING, Texas -- Among the $3.633 million the Dallas Cowboys will dish out on the NFL’s performance-based pay system, 12 players have earned more than $100,000, led by left guard Ronald Leary and safety J.J. Wilcox.
The system rewards players with low base salaries and high play-time percentages from the previous season. The money does not count against the salary cap.
Leary, who started 15 games, will receive a check worth $286,812.61 after earning a base salary of $495,000 in 2014. He received the most in performance-based pay last season as well, earning an extra $307,104.43.
Leary re-signed this year as an exclusive free agent for $585,000. He will likely cash in again next year in performance-based pay.
Wilcox, who started every game, made an extra $245,172.57. He had a $505,000 base salary.
Backup tackle Donald Hawkins, who was active for one game, will take home the smallest check of $318.48. Five players will receive more than $90,000 -- Travis Frederick, Dwayne Harris, Cameron Lawrence, Zack Martin, and George Selvie.
