INDIANAPOLIS -- ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. is keeping the offensive lineman theme going when it comes to which position the Indianapolis Colts will address with their first-round pick in the April draft. That's a good thing because it's been well documented that the Colts need to do a better job of protecting quarterback Andrew Luck. But instead of selecting an offensive tackle with the No. 18 pick, Kiper has the Colts selecting University of Alabama center Ryan Kelly in his second mock draft.![]()
The Colts are in the position where they need to take the best offensive lineman available when their pick rolls around in the first round. That's how bad things are on the offensive line for them. The search remains for Indianapolis to find to a center to pair with Luck.
Samson Satele, Mike McGlynn, A.Q. Shipley, Khaled Holmes and Jonotthan Harrison.
Those are all players who have started at center for the Colts since the 2013 season. Some of have been injured, others lost their job over poor play and Shipley lost his job without explanation in 2014. The Colts are looking for a player who can control the line of scrimmage and block in the pass and running game. They also need a player who has a chance of starting right away to help stop the revolving door at center for the team.
