Each day through Feb. 20, I’ll examine Jacksonville Jaguars players who are scheduled to become free agents on March 10.
TE Fendi Onobun
Type: Restricted free agent.
Summary: He signed with the Jaguars on Aug. 7, 2014, but suffered a quad injury and spent the season on injured reserve.
Why re-sign him: Beyond Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor, the Jaguars pretty much have nothing at tight end. Maybe he can find a way to get on the field on special teams.
Why let him go: He hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2011 and has played in just four games from 2010-14.
Best guess: He does not receive a contract offer.
LB A.J. Edds
Type: Restricted free agent.
Summary: He played in two games on special teams for the Jaguars in 2014.
Why re-sign him: He’s still a young player (27) with little mileage who can contribute on special teams.
Why let him go: There’s no room for him on the field on defense because the Jaguars are committed to getting faster at all spot. Plus, he’s not going to get on the field ahead of Telvin Smith or J.T. Thomas (provide he is re-signed). There’s no need to keep him around as a special-teams player.
Best guess: He does not receive a contract offer.
