It was just a matter of time before running back Jonas Gray got promoted from the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad.
The Dolphins added Gray, along with backup center Sam Brenner, to Miami’s 53-man roster on Friday, just 48 hours before the team plays the Washington Redskins in Week 1 of the regular season.
Gray led the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in rushing this preseason and was, in his words, “shocked” to be released. The Dolphins quickly added Gray to their practice squad this week because Miami needed a bigger back to complement starter Lamar Miller.
To make room for the additions, Miami cut third-string quarterback Logan Thomas and backup center Jacques McClendon.
