The Miami Dolphins activated rookie running back Jay Ajayi, adding him to their 53-man roster Saturday afternoon, the team announced.
Ajayi had a rib injury in the preseason and was put on injured reserve with a designation to return in September. He has practiced for the past two weeks and became eligible to make his regular-season debut Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
The fifth-round pick is expected to add depth and punch behind starter Lamar Miller. Ajayi rushed for an astounding 1,823 yards and 32 total touchdowns last season for Boise State.
"I'm ready to get it going," Ajayi said this week. "I feel like I'm an all-round back that can also make big plays for this team."
To make room for Ajayi, Miami released backup center Sam Brenner.
