METAIRIE, La. – Mark Ingram’s status for the New Orleans Saints Thursday night game at Atlanta is uncertain after he was held out of full-team drills Tuesday with a toe injury.
It could just be a precautionary measure, though, since it’s a short week. Ingram was present for the early portion of Tuesday’s practice that was open to the media.
The team will hold another walk-through practice session on Wednesday before releasing an official injury-status report.
Obviously Ingram would be missed if he is out or limited this week, since he has been one of the top running backs in the NFL this year while splitting time with rookie Alvin Kamara – another one of the NFL’s top running backs this year.
However, Kamara is also capable of taking on more of the load if needed since the Saints use both of the versatile runner/receivers as “every-down” backs. Ingram has 922 rushing yards, nine rushing touchdowns and 255 receiving yards in 12 games this year. Kamara has 606 rushing yards, 614 receiving yards and 11 total TDs.
Another injury concern for the Saints is left guard Andrus Peat, who was not present at Tuesday’s practice because of a groin injury. Peat has been a key part of New Orleans’ offense this year as both a guard and replacement left tackle when needed.
On a brighter note, cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ankle), safety Marcus Williams (groin) and left tackle Terron Armstead (thigh/shoulder) all practiced on a limited basis Tuesday after missing Sunday’s 31-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers – offering optimism that all three could return for Thursday night’s game.
Linebacker A.J. Klein (groin), cornerbacks Ken Crawley (abdomen) and P.J. Williams (shoulder) and defensive end Trey Hendrickson (knee) were also limited Tuesday.
