EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul sat out a second straight day of practice with an ankle injury, and his status for Sunday's season finale against the Eagles is in doubt.
Pierre-Paul has been in lively spirits in the locker room and said Wednesday that he expects to play. But the fact that he didn't practice Thursday after coach Tom Coughlin said they believed he'd be able to get some work in is a poor sign.
Pierre-Paul has played in seven games since his return from the July 4 fireworks accident that cost him his right index finger. He is eligible for free agency after this season and said Wednesday he'd like to be back with the Giants.
Also not practicing for the Giants on Thursday were safeties Craig Dahl and Cooper Taylor and tackle Marshall Newhouse, all of whom have concussions, and linebacker J.T. Thomas, who has an ankle injury. The injuries to Dahl and Taylor make it likely that the Giants would promote practice squad safety G.J. Kinne for the game. Rookie Bobby Hart likely would start at right tackle in place of Newhouse.
