The ESPN fantasy football marathon continues with an analysis of the New York Jets’ tight ends:
ESPN Fantasy Projection: 33 receptions, 327 yards, 3 TDs
Over or under: In a different offense, with a different supporting cast, Amaro would surpass these projections. But on the Jets? Not likely. In case you missed last season, here's a news flash: Tight end is a low-impact position in the Jets' passing attack. The tight ends combined for only eight receptions last season, one of the lowest totals in recent league history. The scheme revolves around the wide receivers, which probably is a smart thing because the receivers are Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Amaro is an enigma to the coaches because he flashes receiving skill, but he disappears for stretches. After missing last season due to shoulder surgery, he's highly motivated in what could be a make-or-break year. But to get on the field, he'll have to improve his blocking and be more consistent in all areas.
Who else could see time: Incumbent Kellen Davis still is running with the first team, but he's strictly a blocking tight end. He's not a receiving threat in any way, shape or form -- only three catches last season. At 6-foot-7, Zach Sudfeld should be a red-zone presence, but he has battled injuries and could be hard-pressed to make the team.
