FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets coach Todd Bowles said the Buffalo Bills' firing of their coach, Rex Ryan, won't affect how the Jets prepare for the Bills, whom they host in the 2016 season finale on Sunday.
"Not really, you can't change a scheme in a couple days when it's something you've been running for 15 or 16 weeks," Bowles said of the Bills, who will turn to offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn as their interim head coach for the game. "We'll just prepare for what we see on film and be ready to adjust when the game starts."
Bowles knows Lynn well, having worked with him on the staff of the Dallas Cowboys. He called him "an outstanding coach," said he was an "outstanding coordinator" and "has a chance to be a good head coach."
Asked about reports that the Bills will start EJ Manuel at quarterback, rather than Tyrod Taylor, Bowles said Manuel is "not the runner Tyrod is, but he can still run. He can run in or out of the pocket; he controls the offense; he's been there a couple of years, so we expect the offense to run as normal."
As far as his own quarterback situation, Bowles said the question of whether Bryce Petty -- whose season is over because of a shoulder injury suffered making a tackle following a fumble in Saturday's 41-3 loss to the New England Patriots -- will be a part of the team's future is something to be discussed in the offseason.
Bowles, who nearly missed Saturday's game because of a kidney stone, said he is "doing OK" now and added his condition was not caused by stress. ... He said Petty has not had surgery yet, but added, "I think he'll be getting it, though." He said he did not have a timetable for when Petty may be able to return. ... Bowles said RB Khiry Robinson, who limped off in Saturday's game, suffered another broken leg. It is Robinson's third broken leg in the last 13 months. ... Receiver Brandon Marshall said he has a hip pointer, and he hopes he'll be able to play in Sunday's game.
