MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- A few thoughts on the Green Bay Packers' 27-24 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Sun Life Stadium:
What it means: Who says Aaron Rodgers can't lead a comeback victory? That was one of the few holes on his résumé, but it should not be that way anymore. Rodgers threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Quarless with three seconds left. It came one play after Rodgers pulled off a fake-spike play that turned into a 12-yard completion to Davante Adams, who got out of bounds with six seconds left to set up the game winner.
Stock watch: Adams' role in the offense keeps increasing. A week after Adams caught his first touchdown pass, Rodgers went to the rookie receiver on the first two plays from scrimmage for completions of 5 and 18 yards to help ignite the Packers' only touchdown drive of the first half. Adams also had two catches for third-down conversions in the first half and finished with six catches for 77 yards.
Special-teams struggles: The Dolphins blocked a Tim Masthay punt in the first quarter when linebacker Jonathan Freeny beat Jamari Lattimore, but it did not cost the Packers any points. On the Dolphins' ensuing possession, coach Joe Philbin decided to forgo a gimme field goal to go for it on fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line, a play the Packers thwarted when safety Morgan Burnett and cornerback Tramon Williams stuffed running back Knowshon Moreno for a 2-yard loss.
Injuries: The Packers lost both of their starting cornerbacks within a three-play span late in the third quarter. Sam Shields went down with a knee injury before a play even started. It appeared his knee gave out as he was breaking the huddle. Then Williams sustained an ankle injury. Earlier, the Packers lost linebacker Lattimore to a neck injury.
Game ball: With an assist from T.J. Lang, who recovered Rodgers' fumble on the final drive, Rodgers won this game. He calmly executed the fake-spike play and then capped it off with his touchdown pass to Quarless. He also had a vintage Rodgers touchdown earlier in the game, when he scrambled and hit Randall Cobb for a score.
What's next: The Packers host the Carolina Panthers next Sunday at Lambeau Field.
