NEW ORLEANS -- The San Francisco 49ers lost two players to injury before halftime of their game against the New Orleans Saints.
Rookie kick returner Bruce Ellington, a fourth-round draft pick, and nose tackle Ian Williams, were driven off on the same cart and it was announced early in the third quarter they were lost for the game.
Ellington’s ankle was injured returning a punt when tackled by Vinnie Sunseri and Williams' left leg was hurt three snaps earlier.
Perrish Cox replaced Ellington on punt return duties while Carlos Hyde replaced him on kickoff return and Williams was replaced by Quinton Dial. It's worth noting that Niners trainers were examining the same leg on which Williams broke his ankle last year.
The 49ers led the Saints at the half, 21-10.
