SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers are projected to score the second-fewest points on defense in fantasy this year. Only the San Francisco 49ers' defense is projected to do worse. San Diego’s defense finished with the fourth-fewest points in fantasy last season.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: 35 sacks, 12 interceptions, 9 fumble recoveries
Over or under: Even though the Chargers gave up 288 rushing yards in the team’s first exhibition game -- the most of any NFL team in Week 1 -- I’m still taking the over. The addition of nose tackle Brandon Mebane should help improve the run defense up front, and players like linebacker Denzel Perrman, edge rusher Melvin Ingram and cornerback Jason Verrett should take another step in their development.
Who else could see time: San Diego’s first-round selection Joey Bosa remains unsigned due to a contract impasse. The Chargers selected the Ohio State product because of his ability to stop the run and generate pass rush. San Diego could use him in training camp sooner rather than later.
