RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive tackle/fullback Tani Tupou to the 53-man roster.
The spot for Tupou opened up after the trade with the San Francisco 49ers for safety L.J. McCray fell through. According to NFL Network, McCray failed his physical.
Tupou is the only player on the roster who has played fullback. He is one of seven undrafted free-agent rookies currently on the team and one of 15 rookies overall.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks added a couple more players to their practice squad: wide receiver Marcus Lucas and linebacker Jordan Tripp. Lucas (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) played his college ball at Missouri and signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He was on their practice squad for a year and then had stints on the practice squads of the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins in 2015. He rejoined the Panthers this summer but was waived on Saturday.
Tripp was a fifth-round pick by the Dolphins in 2014. He played in 13 games as a rookie and spent 12 games with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He is an excellent athlete, and the Seahawks showed interest in him before the draft when Tripp was coming out of Montana.
The Seahawks now have eight players on the practice squad: Lucas, Tripp, DT Tylor Harris, WR Kenny Lawler, LB Kache Palacio, G/C Will Pericak, WR Rodney Smith and WR Kasen Williams.
