TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t been happy with their special teams this preseason.
That’s why they shook things up Tuesday morning, releasing veteran punter Michael Koenen. Koenen, who also handled kickoffs last year, was scheduled to make $3.25 million this season. Koenen finished last in the league in punting last season.
Koenen’s release clears the way for Jake Schum to be the team’s punter. Schum averaged 51.2 yards on four punts in Saturday’s preseason loss to Cleveland.
