TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers sent out another strong sign Thursday that quarterback Josh McCown will not play Sunday at Pittsburgh.
The team promoted quarterback Mike Kafka from the practice squad. McCown has a thumb injury and coach Lovie Smith previously indicated second-year pro Mike Glennon will get the start. Kafka is likely to serve as Glennon’s backup for the Pittsburgh game.
Kafka, who was with the Bucs throughout the offseason and preseason, previously appeared in four NFL games with Philadelphia.
The Bucs waived guard Rishaw Johnson to clear a roster spot for Kafka. The Bucs signed offensive lineman Josh Allen to take Kafka’s spot on the practice squad.
