The Washington Redskins officially downgraded cornerback E.J. Biggers, leaving him sidelined for Sunday’s game against Indianapolis. Biggers suffered a concussion in Sunday’s loss at San Francisco.
The fact that he won’t play isn’t surprising given that Biggers did not practice at all during the week. He did not make the trip to Indianapolis.
That leaves the Redskins in a bind at cornerback. They have starters David Amerson and Bashaud Breeland, but then inexperienced players such as Greg Ducre and Chase Minnifield. The coaches will have to decide how they want to handle the slot receivers -- the Colts use a lot of three-receiver sets, so this will be crucial. The Colts rank second in the NFL with 219.64 passing yards per game out of a three-receiver set. And they have used that look on 55 percent of their offensie snaps this season, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Last week, safety Trenton Robinson played in the slot at times as the Redskins used four-safety alignments because of their injuries at cornerback. They also used safety Brandon Meriweather at cornerback on occasion. The coaches mentioned Robinson as a possibility for this role Sunday, but he told reporters Friday that he had not worked at slot during the week.
