ASHBURN, Va., -- The Washington Redskins will be without two more starters, as expected, when they play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. But coach Jay Gruden was hopeful that both players could return the following week.
Redskins coach said corner Bashaud Breeland and left guard Shawn Lauvao won’t play Sunday because of injuries sustained vs. the New York Giants in Week 3.
Breeland strained ligaments in his right ankle, and Lauvao suffered a moderate sprain. Lauvao appeared to be walking okay on Friday. Neither player was on the practice field this week during portions open to the media.
Also, rookie receiver Josh Doctson (Achilles) and corner Dashaun Phillips (hamstring) were ruled out for Sunday. Neither was a surprise. Gruden said Doctson might have to miss a couple weeks as his tendinitis reoccurs. Phillips was at practice on Friday, but he could not work.
Gruden, though, said “absolutely” when asked if Lauvao could return next week and said that was his hope for the other three listed as out for Sunday.
Two players are questionable: linebacker Trent Murphy (elbow/shoulder) and end Kendall Reyes (groin). Reyes has missed the past two games. There does not appear to be real concern that Murphy will miss the game. He leads the Redskins with three sacks.
Receiver DeSean Jackson, who missed practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday, was full go Friday and will play. He’s not listed on the injury report.
