INDIANAPOLIS -- Ted Thompson never says much about impending free agents, and he certainly isn't going to say anything about one who also has legal problems.
So it was no surprise that the Green Bay Packers general manager more or less took the fifth when asked Thursday about defensive tackle Letroy Guion, who was arrested earlier this month on felony marijuana and firearm charges.
Thompson said he is "monitoring" the situation.
The Packers had been in preliminary talks with Guion about a new contract when he was arrested. Guion, who was signed off the street last offseason after the Minnesota Vikings cut him, became a full-time starter after B.J. Raji was lost for the year with a torn biceps tendon in the preseason. Guion posted a career-high 3.5 sacks and was seemingly in line for a deal more lucrative than the one-year, $1 million contract he signed last season.
That's all on hold now.
"There's a lot of water that will have to go under the bridge before we can figure all that out," Thompson said. "We'll defer on that question. That'd be speculation."
Guion is expected to learn by the end of this week whether the cash, vehicle and firearm that was seized during his Feb. 3 arrest will be returned. He appeared in Bradford County (Florida) court on Monday during a probable cause hearing pertaining to the forfeiture of his property. His representatives believe that he has adequately proven the $190,028.81 in cash that he was carrying was from his Packers' paychecks.
