PHILADELPHIA – There seemed to be a name missing when the Eagles announced their practice squad Sunday: quarterback G.J. Kinne.
That oversight was corrected Monday, as the Eagles announced Kinne’s addition to their practice squad. They also signed wide receiver/cornerback Teddy Williams, according to agent David Canter. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Williams is the only player on the Eagles’ 10-man practice squad who wasn’t in training camp with the team.
Williams, who did not play college football, was released Friday by the Arizona Cardinals. He was a sprinter at the University of Texas-San Antonio. Williams spent three previous summers in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys.
As for Kinne, he was in the Eagles’ camp last summer as well. The mobile Kinne played his college ball at Tulsa, where his quarterbacks coach was current Eagles assistant Press Taylor. With Mark Sanchez on a one-year deal and Matt Barkley likely to move up or move on after this season, Kinne could still find a more permanent job with the Eagles.
For now, Kinne will be the fourth quarterback for certain practice drills coach Chip Kelly likes to run. He’ll have all four quarterbacks – at times, Kelly himself will serve as a fifth passer – line up in a row and throw to an array of receivers simultaneously running routes.
During the preseason, Kinne completed 12 of 14 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. Kinne did not throw an interception.
